Safety and Moderation

Open video chat carries risk, and we would rather explain what we do about it than promise something we cannot deliver. This page lists the safety measures on SpyMeLive and their limits.

Adults only

  • Age confirmation. Before every chat you confirm that you are 18 or older (or of legal age where you live, if higher) and that you accept the rules.
  • Automatic age check on your device. While you chat, software running in your browser estimates the age and the number of people on your camera. If a person who may be under 18 appears, the chat is stopped. The pictures used for this check never leave your device. If it makes a mistake, write to support and we will review it.

Reports, restrictions and bans

  • One-tap report. Press Report and choose a reason: nudity or sexual content, looks like a minor, insults or threats, ads or spam, or something else. The person is never matched with you again.
  • Review. Every report is stored and reviewed by moderators. We may use human moderators and automated tools.
  • Automatic restrictions. Several reports against the same connection in a day restrict it automatically.
  • Bans. Repeat offenders are banned. Bans use one-way salted hashes of the IP address and device identifier, so we do not need to store them in readable form.

Privacy

We never record video or audio. It goes directly between the two browsers. The technical information we keep to prevent abuse, and for how long, is listed in the privacy policy.

What we cannot do

We cannot see or control what a stranger says the moment a chat begins, and we cannot stop another person from filming their own screen. No open video chat can. That is why the habits in Is random video chat safe? matter as much as any tool we build.

In an emergency

If someone is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first: 112 in the European Union, 999 in the United Kingdom, 911 in the United States and Canada, 000 in Australia. We cooperate with law enforcement and report child sexual abuse material and other serious crimes to the competent bodies.
